Boat Rocker Media Announces Formation of New Factual/Unscripted Division with Two New Series and Expansion into Financing of Original Content
TORONTO, Canada (May 31, 2017) - One year after its corporate rebrand, Boat Rocker Media is accelerating its growth plans with the consolidation of the company’s factual and unscripted projects under its new Crooked Horse Productions shingle.
The move also sees Boat Rocker significantly increase its direct investment into original content, with the greenlight of two original unscripted/factual shows. The first, Late Nite Eats, is produced by Crooked Horse Productions in partnership with Cooking Channel in the U.S., and is set to begin production at the end of May. The second, History In The Making, is a Boat Rocker Original and commenced production in April 2017. Both series are being distributed globally by Boat Rocker Rights.
After more than a decade of creating and producing over 150 hours of premium unscripted content as Temple Street – Factual, Crooked Horse now emerges as a distinct division of Boat Rocker Studios. Crooked Horse is a creative-first, full-service content company with offices in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. It will be helmed by Vice President David Lerech, reporting into Boat Rocker Studios Co-Presidents and Boat Rocker Media Co-Executive Chairmen David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg.
“Crooked Horse is a factual production company re-imagined for the new and ever-changing media landscape, with a unique vision for creating popular and innovative content across all platforms,” said Fortier and Schneeberg. “We are excited for our incredible creative team to expand on the current production slate, leveraging enhanced self-financing strategies and co-financing partnerships with global broadcasters.”
Boat Rocker’s expansion into direct financing of unscripted content for the global marketplace is born out of a broader belief that there has never been a better time to be creators of premium content.
“The shifting media landscape rewards bold action and our increased direct investment into content emphasizes our long-held belief that content will always be king,” said John Young, CEO of Boat Rocker Media. “With the strategic advantages that come from its alignment with Boat Rocker’s other divisions, Crooked Horse is able to offer creators and broadcast partners innovative financing, production and distribution models that bring amazing stories to life.”
The expansion of Boat Rocker’s mandate to increasing its investment into content is launching with Crooked Horse's unscripted/factual content, with plans already in place to expand this strategy across Boat Rocker Studios' other content divisions, Temple Street (Drama) and Radical Sheep (Kids & Family and Animation).
